Alki Co-op offers two different outdoor enrichment classes taught by Teacher Archer. Archer began her outdoor education experience by leading kayaking and backpacking tours on the Olympic Peninsula, where she fell in love with fostering the relationship between kids and nature. She previously taught at an all-outdoor nature preschool and has brought that knowledge to the Alki and Lincoln Park Co-op sites over the last few years. Kids have a structured environment where they can play, learn, explore, and get dirty safely! Outdoor play fosters social-emotional development, including turn-taking, problem-solving, and safe risk-taking. Archer encourages curiosity, patience, and kindness, creating a supportive environment where children can explore, discover, and test their skills. Through these experiences, students build confidence and strengthen their connection to the natural world.
Parent Involvement:
- Parents work about one day each month.
- Your child attends class without you on the other days.
- If you cannot come due to illness, etc. you can ask for another parent to cover for you or trade.
- There is no monthly parent meeting for this class.
Outdoor Class is an enrichment class and requires concurrent enrollment in a Toddlers, 2s, 3s, or Pre-K class at one of the West Seattle Co-op Sites.
